Sustainable entrepreneurship is an integral part of our business operations. We keep sustainability in mind with every investment, aiming to minimize our impact on the environment, society, and nature. For example, we prioritize organic cultivation methods. We are keen to engage in discussions with you to better understand your sustainability preferences and goals.
We meet the global standard for food safety and quality. See our certificats here
We invest in sustainability throughout our entire production process, ensuring nothing goes to waste. For instance, our vegetable residual flow is repurposed to feed livestock, which in turn leads to the enrichment of the land for our vegetable cultivation. This means that we aim for a circular production approach. Additionally, we are initiating the construction of a new facility that will process surplus vegetables to produce gas. This gas can be used to heat our production processes. These investments position Maasoever as one of the greenest processors in the industry.
Within the food industry, there is a growing need for sustainable and future-proof production methods. At Maasoever, we are taking a major step in that direction with the construction of an innovative water purification and biogas plant. This development marks an important moment in our ambition to produce in a completely water-neutral way and to actively contribute to circular agriculture and economy.
The challenges of climate change and increasing water scarcity call for immediate action. In addition, rising energy prices make it necessary to produce smarter and more efficiently.
With this project, we are saving energy, reducing our environmental impact, and keeping frozen vegetables affordable for consumers worldwide—today and tomorrow!
Our new plant treats wastewater from vegetable processing in such a way that it can be safely returned to the Meuse River. This makes Maasoever water neutral. An important part of the process is the universal digester, which converts waste streams into biogas. This biogas replaces natural gas, leading to a reduction in natural gas consumption.
The fermentation process also produces digestate and water. The digestate is used as a high-quality fertilizer by vegetable growers, replacing artificial fertilizer. The water is purified and reused in other processes within the factory. In this way, we not only close the water cycle, but also contribute to more sustainable and circular production.
The construction of the installation will take several weeks. After that, we will be ready to further sustain our processes, contribute to a circular food chain, and work with our partners to create a livable future for future generations. This project represents a major step forward in closing raw material cycles in the food industry and achieving energy-neutral business operations.

This project is the result of intensive collaboration between the government, the business community, and our own employees. The Province of North Brabant, the Municipality of Waalwijk, and the Brabantse Delta Water Board worked closely with our external partners to make this possible. Thanks to the involvement of Top Cold Control and Design2operate, among others, and with financial support from the European Union, OPZuid EFRO, Rabobank, and the Brabant Development Agency, we were able to achieve great results together.
Our vegetables are exclusively locally grown, never imported. By cultivating our produce locally in the Netherlands and just across the border in Germany, we minimize our "Food Miles," measuring the distance food travels before reaching the consumer. We are committed to sustainability by keeping the number of Food Miles to a minimum.
